Pools & Swim Spas Questions & Answers
Building a swimming pool is rarely done on a whim and it is common for our customers to have many, many questions to consider before they take the next steps. Outlined below, you will find just a few of the common questions asked before the swimming pool process is begun. If you have any other questions, please feel free to ask us! We may even feature them on this page...
Q. Do I need planning for my pool?
A. In most cases planning consent for a domestic outdoor pool is not required, however there are certain exceptions:
- Where the pool is part of a property where the buidings are listed.
- Within the confines of a national park.
- In some areas scheduled as being of outstanding natural beauty.
- World heritage coastlines.
Ultimately guidelines may vary from region to region, however we can provide guidance in these matters.
Where a pool is to be an indoor pool, even if it is to be placed within an existing building, planning will be required. Many lightweight telescopic type buildings are exempt from this ruling.
Q. How long will it take to build my pool?
A. This will be dependant in part on the type of pool you build. The more complex the structure the longer it will take. Equally the amount of landscaping you may wish to carry out at the same time. We can be more specific once we have identified the best system for you.
Q. We can’t decide where the best place in our property is for the pool, how can we decide?
A. We will visit you and look at the site together, usually after the merits of particular locations have been discussed, we arrive at a common solution, that works for you.
Q. We are concerned that the impact on the existing grounds and property are minimal?
A. We understand only too well the need for pools to blend in with their surroundings, and in many cases to look as natural as possible. This is an area in which we specialise and can talk you through what is possible.
Q. How much will my pool cost?
A. This will depend on many factors, such as the type of construction, type of finish, the amount of landscaping. Factors such as access and disposal of excavated material all have an influence on final cost. Again we can guide you through the cost effects of going in one direction as opposed to another.
Q. Are pools difficult to look after?
A. No, there are so many things on the market now such as automatic sanitiser feeders, automatic pool cleaners and timers for heating and filtration, that once the water has been correctly balanced, there is little adjustment up or down with the chemicals required. A weekly check is sufficient for a domestic pool.
