“Floating” Health Recliners For New Singapore Hotel

08 December 2007 - MillAquia Provides Marble Health Recliners to Six Star Hotel

With a design brief that required the loungers to be ergonomic, yet with bases that makes them look as if they are floating, MillAquia chose two colours of marble, with a darker base to blend into the overall décor of the spa area within the hotel’s health centre.

Throughout the design stage the company worked closely with the manufacturer and a physiotherapist to ensure the precision contours of the loungers provided the essential ‘wave effect’ shape, both for maximum therapeutic benefit and for luxurious comfort, a prerequisite from the hotel.

Each lounger is made from a solid piece of Carrara marble, which is divided into individually controllable zones heated by long infra-red waves that produce different deep-seated warming effects across the entire surface.

The wave design ensures that all areas of the body are exposed to the desired heat levels of the infra-red source.  Processor-regulated controls enable a variety of heat settings to be set for each zone and ensure the output remains constant.

In this way, the contoured recliner allows a variable balance of heat to be transmitted through different parts of the body where the marble comes into direct contact with the skin.  This stimulates the body’s regulatory mechanisms to encourage a state of deep relaxation to counteract stress.

Expected to become one of the finest landmarks in Asia, the St Regis Hotel has been designed to match the impeccable elegance of the legendary St. Regis in New York; the hotel boasts 299 luxurious guest rooms and 30 exclusively appointed suites.  It is scheduled to be open for business at the end of this year.
